This Privacy Policy sets out how Myers Law uses and protects any information that you give us. Please take a moment to read it and understand it.

About us

Information collected by us

We collect your Full name, email and post address, phone number and other relevant information directly provided by you such as payment information and financial information that relates to our relationship during the application process. We may also obtain data about you from third parties. We will use the contact details you have provided to get in touch with you by phone, e-mail and/or post.

We may process data about your use of our website and services “site usage data.” The site usage data may include your IP address, geographical location, browser type, referral source, length of visit, operating system and website navigation paths. The source of the usage data is in Google Analytics. This usage data may be processed for the purposes of analysing the use of the website and services

We may process information contained in any enquiry you submit to us ie. your name, email address, telephone number and any details you provide to us to support your enquiry.

How we use your personal information

We may use your contact details to communicate with you ie. to respond to enquiries, to act on your behalf on matters you instruct us on or to send you marketing information.

We may disclose your personal data to our insurers and other professional advisors or experts as necessary for the purpose of managing risk, obtaining and maintaining coverage, obtaining professional advice and complying with court directions

We may use data processors such as software providers, 3rd party hosting providers to provision and host our software and platforms, and storage and archiving providers to ensure your information is protected securely and backed up.

We may also use your contact details to comply with legal obligations to act in the public interest and uphold the rule of the law

Legal Reasons We Collect And Use Your Personal Information

We use, collect and are responsible for categories of your personal information. When we do this we are the ‘controller’ of this information for the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other data protection laws ie. the Data Protection Act 2018. In addition to this we will process data given by our clients under their instruction in the course of providing services to them. When we do this, we are a data processor.

We have to declare which ‘lawful reasons’ we are relying on when we are processing your data process. We rely on a different legal basis depending on the data we are processing and the reason we are processing it. We rely on the following legal basis in these circumstances:

(i) Consent: In these instances you will give us consent to use your information. If you have given us consent to use your data in a certain way, and we have no other legal basis for doing so, we will rely on your consent. You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time. Complying with our legal obligations as an employer.

Complying with obligations to HMRC (records keeping of our financial activity, including information relating to transactions, billing and payments).

Complying with our responsibilities to regulators and under applicable legislation.

Defending a legal claim or upholding the rule of law.

We will process information that relates to the services we are providing you with that are bound by our engagement with you. The areas where we are processing data to enter into, or fulfil a legal contract are:

Communication about your matter when you are a client

Performance of any legal contract as a supplier or customer

When we are processing information from you to arrange a contract between us

(iv) Legitimate Interest

We may rely on a legitimate interest to process information. Our legitimate interest is to provide information to our clients and contacts that will support their use of our services and that could be of benefit to them.

 How long will we save your personal data?

  • Enquiry data – will be held for a minimum of 6 years
  • Clients – we will keep an electronic record of our file (except for any of your papers which you ask to be returned to you) for a minimum of six years

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have a number of rights including:

  • request that we restrict processing concerning you
  • request from us access to and rectification or erasure of personal data
  • object to our processing of the data
  • data portability, where applicable

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office about the manner in which we process your personal data.

If in doubt please telephone 01733 968650 about any emails you think look suspicious. Please do not respond to any such communication by email or take any action until you have verified the authenticity by speaking with us. Protect yourself and your money against attempts by hackers and fraudsters. We cannot accept responsibility if you transfer money into an incorrect account.

Complaints Procedure

If we cannot resolve your complaint, the Legal Ombudsman can help you. They will look at your complaint independently. This will not impact how we handle your case.

Before accepting a complaint for investigation, the Legal Ombudsman will check that you have tried to resolve your complaint with us. If you have tried to resolve your complaint with us first, then you must take your complaint to the Legal Ombudsman within six months of receiving a final response to your complaint and no more than six years from the date of act/omission; or no more than three years from when you should reasonably have known there was cause for complaint.
